Weekly Esports & Gaming Events: Here’s What Went Down From Selangor Cyber Games to Level Up KL 2018

The worlds of esports & gaming move at breakneck speeds, so it’s easy to miss the weekly happenings. Here’s a quick recap of what happened in the past week in the worlds of esports and gaming:

Selangor Cyber Games (DOTA 2, PUBG, FIFA19, PES 2019, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Tekken 7) 2018 – 26-28 October

Held at Empire City, Selangor Cyber Games offered a RM 250,000 prize pool spread across 6 different games. Here’s the list of who came out on top at one of the biggest local tournaments in Malaysia:

Mobile Legends

  • 4th Place: Saiyan Reborn

PUBG

ZOTAC LAN Party 2018 – 26-28 October

The Zotac LAN Party certainly looked to “push the limit” with the unveiling of the RTX 20 series, as well as some insane discounts of up to 80% on items like the older 10 series graphics cards at Empire City.

Taiwan Excellence Battleground Intercollege Grand Finale (League of Legends, Dota 2, CSGO, Arena of Valor, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Assetto Corsa) – 26-28 October

Taking place on the Ice Skating Rink at Sunway Pyramid, this tournament was a showcase of the up and coming players from a variety of colleges around Malaysia. Many college students participated in this esports tournament, looking to take home some of the RM 130,000 prize pool.

LEVEL UP KL 2018 – 27-31 October

Level UP KL 2018 was held once again at Connexion Conference & Event Centre (CCEC) in Bangsar South with aims to continue growing the Southeast Asian games industry — including esports. The two days of the conference and exhibition provided many great insights from local and international game developers to the esports industry’s key players. Not only is this a great conference for networking in the gaming industry, but there’s also a lot of great information to from all the speakers present that will certainly help Malaysia’s growth in the coming years.

Acer Predator League Malaysia – 3-4 November

Asia Pacific Predator League 2019 – Malaysian Champion for DOTA2 with Acer Malaysia Director of Consumer Business and Product Johnson Seet

Last weekend, Acer Predator League featured two giant tournaments for DOTA 2 and PUBG for the Asia Pacific region. For PUBG, Team Asbol beat out all challengers to be crowned Malaysia’s champions in the recent national qualifiers while Team Lotac emerged as the victor and will continue to bring Malaysia’s flag for DOTA 2 for this upcoming Grand Finals on February next year in Bangkok with a total prize pool of USD400,000.
